Another swimming pool splash: photo by Malcolm Aslett
One more swimming pool to the collection. I love the blue besides other stuff. Water is a great subject for photography because it is a great treat to see an incomprehensible substance held momentarily in the light. Of course it is nothing like the real thing because of this and yet somehow we think we know it better. Like celebrity stalkers taking pics of stars so they can possess them. This is, naturally, one of several versions of the scene. Below you can see different stages and forms. (The longer, narrower version below is better in terms of density of subject. I don't like the distortion of the circle, though.)Not sure how much the dark foreground shadow lines add to it. Ultimately they help in terms of seeing it as a formal arrangement of shapes and line. An earlier one shows the perspective not worked out as smoothly. There was no way to get it all in. Some things had to be squashed or missed all together. The circular pool is such a strong shape that it commands everything else. The rest of the image tried to squash it down, make it flatter. But circles are circles. Denn es ist rund.
